How to Choose a Hand Shower That is Right for You

Taking a shower has evolved from just cleaning your body, to cleansing your mind and soul. A shower will wake you up in the morning and prepare you, body and mind, for the day ahead. After exercising, a shower can relax sore muscles and make you feel fresh again. At the end of a grueling day there is nothing like a shower to wash all of your stress down the drain.

A device that is this important to your life can’t be chosen without a good deal of thought and consideration first. With today’s technology and all of the options available in hand showers this task can seem overwhelming at times, so we have some things for you to consider while choosing a hand shower that is right for you.

A hand shower is the step up from the traditional fixed shower head that mounts to your wall and is completely stationary. Even though today’s traditional showerheads also come with a variety of different spray settings and options, they aren’t effective for those hard to reach areas and tasks.

A hand shower can be much more useful and luxurious for focusing a massaging spray on a sore muscle anywhere on your body. They can be used to keep your hair dry while washing the rest of your body. Hand showers are excellent for washing children or even fido and cleaning your shower is made a lot easier by allowing you to reach the back of the tub and anywhere in between.

Low-flow hand showers
A low-flow hand shower uses less water and energy. The maximum flow rate permitted by federal law is 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm). However, hand showers with this option use 2.2 to 1.5 gpm. If your home has low water pressure, this may not be a good feature for you. Instead, you need to look into fixtures that are designed to compensate for this problem.

On the other hand there are several models on the market that do compensate for low water pressure, in that case, this would be a great way to save on water and energy usage.

Spray Pattern Options
When choosing a hand shower that is right for you, consider which spray options mean the most to you. Today traditional hand showers don’t only consist of a concentrated stream of water, some have several adjustable options to choose from. You can set the hand shower for a simple concentrated stream, a pulsing spray to work out sore muscles, a gentle mist or any combination in between. Some fixtures also come with a pause setting that reduces the flow to save water while you shampoo or shave.

Finish
There are several hand showers on the market that fit into an overall bathroom faucet suite. This means that all of the faucets in your bathroom will match, from your sink, to your bathtub, to your hand shower. So you can find a finish that suits the decor of your bathroom.

There are several types of hand showers available for your bathroom, from standard “traditional” hand showers that we are all accustomed with, to ones with several different adjustments to turn your showering experience into more than just getting clean. Your budget, need for water efficiency and aesthetic preferences will help you determine which is best for you.
