The secret to getting this to work
8/22/13I just purchased 2 for my kitchen and were installed by my master plumber but was his first time installing this product. In my short 2 day experience with it so far I have found the touch very sensitive. The person who wrote the comment on Amazon is incorrect in saying that the handle is also touch sensitive - it is not supposed to be. Neither is the handspray which forms the tip of the faucet. There is very little flexibility in laying out all the components into the cabinet space, without hoses touching one another. The other problem is the grounding wire which apparently plays a large role in how the sensor faucet behaves. If you have a metal sink, it is straightforward that you attach the groundwire to it. BUT if you don't have a metal sink like me, the installation manual does not say what to do.I had to call Grohe tech support and they told me to attach it to the hot water supply. So I spent half a day isolating the hoses on the faucet in my kitchen island and troubleshooting how it works with tech support. That one now works like it is supposed to (no handle or spray spout activation) BUT it still intermittently comes on and off on its own! Yeah, kinda spooky but hence my comment about it being very sensitive. I will have to observe it going forward. Tomorrow, I'm going to home depot to see if I can get tubular insulating material to wrap all the metal hoses and braids to permanently isolate them because when you pull out the spray head, its movement in a confined space may cause the metal braided hoses to touch again and I am not taking any chances. I will also then work on the 2nd faucet which is still coming on when you touch the spray head and the handle. Wish me luck!Update 9/24/13Finally got it working to where it doesn't come on by itself any more. Here is the trick. It seems to me that the factory sensitivity (level 3) setting is too sensitive. With this setting, touching the spray head and handle will turn on the faucet which it should not. I have mine at level 2. After installing the faucet you must calibrate the sensor. Then adjust the sensitivity to level 2. Then calibrate again. This is the process to calibrate. Disconnect the battery from the sensor unit. Turn on the water with the handle. Connect the battery and let the water flow for 2 minutes. During this time, the sensor will activate and calibrate. Turn off the water with the handle. A lot of time and aggravation can be saved if this was in the manual or if Grohe customer support provided the info.
